World Review March 12, 2015. USS Donald Cook's combat systems suite was reportedly 'shut down' by the Russian aircraft. The Russian Su-24 aircraft was carrying an electronic warfare pod. A few days before the military coup, news media began reporting that a deal for re-establishing normal relations between Turkey and Israel had been negotiated and Pres. Erdogan indicated he was inclined to accept the deal. Were such a rapprochement to take place, it would wound Obama's anti-Israel efforts in the Middle East and encourage nascent overtures already quietly taking place between Sunni Arab capitals and Tel Aviv.
